Amazon Data Services Canada Inc. is currently hiring for an Engineering Operations Chief to support our data centers. The Chief is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response. They are expected to be a singular focal point for all facility operations within a given data center. The Chief manages small-to-medium projects from planning to completion, obtains and tracks quotes for all necessary costs, and documents project results for future implementation at other facilities.
The Chief supports Engineering Operation technicians and any third-party vendors in their role of providing hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operations. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand-by diesel generators, switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems. This team works in an environment that operates 24/7.

Amazon Canada Data Services is currently recruiting a Senior Data Center Operations Technician (TP), to join our Data Center Operations team. The Senior Technician (TP) is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire safety equipment in the data center is operating at its maximum level of efficiency. This involves planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response. These points should be central to all installation operations within a given data center.
The TP manages small and medium-sized projects, from conception to completion, obtains and tracks quotes for all necessary costs, and documents project results for future implementation at other facilities. The TP supports engineering operations technicians and any third-party vendors by offering assistance with the operation and troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical equipment in the field. Such equipment includes but is not limited to standby diesel generators, switchgear, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), power distribution units (PDU), air handling units (AHU), cooling towers, chemical process systems, pumps, motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs) and building automation systems.

This position requires the selected candidate to obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment.
- In-depth understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations such as generators, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units.
- Familiar with BMS and EPMS control systems and data collection/trending
- Candidates should be able to lift up to 50 lbs and or work in elevated locations.
- Ability to work in an environment that operates 24/7 with an ability to provide after-hours support as needed. All physical requirements are expected with reasonable accommodations
- Must have the ability to read/write/speak/communicate fluently in English with respect to complex technical instructions and concepts.
Basic skills
- 3+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment;
- Have an excellent understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in the operation of critical data centers, including generators, transformers, electrical distribution and switching cabinets, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), ventilation units (ATS), power distribution units (PDUs), pumps, air handlers and data center air conditioners (CRACs);
- Be familiar with building supervision and control systems (BMS), electrical energy management (EPMS), and data trend analysis;
- The candidate must be able to lift loads of up to 22 kg (50 lbs) and work in elevated spaces;
- Be able to work in a 24/7 environment, with the ability to provide after-hours support as needed. All physical requirements should be met with reasonable accommodations.
- Ability to read, write, speak and communicate fluently in English using instructions and complex technical concepts.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or College’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent work experience in the Mechanical/Electrical Field.
- Electrical or Mechanical trade (Post Secondary Education).
- Bilingual in French and English.
- The ability to read and speak/communicate in French is considered an asset.
Desirable skills
- Bachelor’s degree or university degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent work experience in the mechanical or electrical field.
- Professional degree in electricity or mechanics (post-secondary level)
- Bilingualism (French and English).
- The ability to read, write and communicate in French is an asset.
