Amazon Web Services (AWS) is growing rapidly and is looking for a Data Center Operations Technician to join its growing Data Center Infrastructure Operations team.


Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a fast-paced, world-leading data center technology company. The Data Center Operations Technician is responsible for the maintenance of electrical, mechanical and fire protection equipment in the data center. The Data Center Operations Technician serves as the technical resource person for Amazon in its data centers. Data center equipment that supports critical servers must be operational 99.9 999% of the time. The Data Center Operations Technician is also responsible for reducing facility operating costs through innovative solutions. The Data Center Operations Technician is the first responder to electrical and mechanical issues affecting the availability of Amazon services. Such equipment includes, but is not limited to, standby generators and associated fuel systems, electrical distribution and switch cabinets, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), electrical distribution panels (PDUs) , ventilation and air conditioning units (AHU, CRAH, CRAC), pumps, motors, variable frequency drives (VFD) and building automation systems.

This position requires the selected candidate to obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is growing rapidly, and we are looking for an Engineering and Operations Technician to join our expanding Infrastructure Operations team.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a fast paced technology company and a leader in the world of data centers. The Engineering and Operations Technician is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center. The Engineering and Operations Technician serves as a technical resource to support Amazon within its data centers. Data center equipment that supports mission-critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. Engineering and Operations Technician’s are also tasked with driving innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities. Engineering and Operations Technician’s are Amazon’s front line respondents for electrical and mechanical issued affecting Amazon’s availability. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand-by diesel generators and related fuel systems, switchboards/switch-gears, UPS’s, PDU’s, AHU’s, CRAHUs, CRAC’s, pumps, motors, VFD’s, and building automation systems.

This position requires that the candidate selected obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Basic skills :

  • At least 2 years of experience operating a data center or building, or equivalent experience in a critical environment;
  • Have an excellent understanding of data center electrical and mechanical systems, including power systems, generators, transformers, electrical distribution and switch cabinets, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), switches automatic transfer (ATS), electrical distribution panels (PDU), pumps, ventilation and air conditioning units (AHU, CRAH, CRAC);
  • Be familiar with building supervision and control systems (BMS), electrical energy management (EPMS), and data trend analysis;
  • Master maintenance management software (CMMS);
  • Be able to set priorities in a complex and fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to work on call to provide support outside normal working hours;
  • The candidate must be able to lift loads of up to 22 kg (49 lbs) and/or work at heights and on ladders;
  • Ability to stretch to fit equipment and devices while maintaining balance;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, in French and English;
  • Since this role requires the employee to interact with other Amazon entities globally as well as with employees and stakeholders in other Canadian provinces, knowledge of French and English is required for this position. job.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of Data Center Operations, or Building operations experience or equivalent mission critical environment experience;
  • In depth understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations such as: feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units;
  • Familiar with BMS and EPMS control systems and data collection/trending;
  • Proficient with maintenance management software (CMMS);
  • Ability to prioritize in a complex, fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to work on-call to provide after-hours support;
  • Candidates should be able to lift up to 49 lbs and or work at heights and from ladders;
  • Reach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balance;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, in French and English;
  • Due to the nature of the role that requires interaction with other Amazon entities globally and with Amazon employees and stakeholders in other provinces in Canada, bilingualism French and English is required for this position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Desirable skills:

  • Trades License in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (Post-Secondary Level)
  • Technical training in building mechanics, electromechanics or equivalent field
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering in an applicable field (mechanical, electrical, construction, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Electrical or Mechanical trade (post secondary education)
  • Mechanical or electromechanical college education
  • Bachelor Degree in applicable engineering field (electrical, mechanical, construction)
