Job Description

Good storytelling starts with great listening. At Audible, that means each role and every project has our audience in mind. Because the same people who design, develop, and deploy our products also happen to use them. To us, that speaks volumes.

About This Role

As part of the Discovery team, you will work with cross-functional partners to deliver delightful experiences that help customers find they’re next listen. You will use customer insights and production data to inform your decisions, measure success, and identify new opportunities. Working closely with the Personalization team, you will help customers deepen their understanding of content and expose pathways for discovery across the world’s largest collection of spoken word content.

About You

  • Design high-quality products – You use your design skills to find solutions that transform the knowledge of the customer into compelling product features and services.
  • Your sensitivity to customer experience ensures we produce a premium product that delivers results for the business and delight to our customers.
  • Deepen customer knowledge – You hold a fundamental belief that understanding customer needs creates the opportunity for product innovation.
  • You actively pursue ways to expand, evangelize, and share your customer knowledge, ensuring the work you and the team produces meets customers’ needs.
  • Embrace a growth mindset – A discerning eye helps you hone your craft, and your constructive feedback helps others grow in a safe environment.
  • You embrace failure as learning and fuel for creative problem-solving.
  • Your hunger for expanding your design skills ensures that you are contributing to the advancement of the entire team.

As a Senior UX Designer, you will…

  • Participate as a member of a UX project team; collaborating with UX peers and cross-functional teammates from product, insights & analytics, engineering, customer service, marketing, and QA.
  • Work iteratively to design, refine, and validate solutions.
  • Using your design skills, you create wireframes, storyboards, walkthroughs, and prototypes that communicate your design ideas.
  • Graciously provide and incorporate meaningful feedback to improve your and the team’s design solutions and perspectives.
  • Partner with User Research to ensure that your design concepts meet our customer’s expectations and will deliver the desired results.
  • Produce documentation to ensure your designs are well understood by stakeholders and detailed enough for efficient development.
  • You ensure that you have accounted for variations across a wide variety of devices and platforms, handled error conditions and edge cases, and defined usable, elegant micro-interactions.
  • Deliver designs that promote our service-wide User Experience Strategy, and utilize our UX Design System, driving coherence and continuity.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a user experience designer, product designer, interaction designer, information architect, or similar role.
  • A track record of designing and delivering digital products that align customer needs and business goals; illustrated with a portfolio.
  • Experience with several design approaches, methods, and tools that you can use to plan and estimate your project work.
  • Experience using a variety of design tools to craft an effective approach, estimate, and plan in response to design requests.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An online portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience in user-centered design solutions and product design innovation. Must illustrate solving for multi-platform UX challenges and demonstrate scalable, user-friendly design solutions.
  • Experience planning and executing effective customer research, solo, or in partnership with a UX Researcher.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and solid design instincts who can translate user and business needs into design solutions.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong visual design skills to complement your UX skill.
  • A strong track record of iterative design, working closely with product and tech partners from inception through implementation.
  • Ability to work gracefully and have a bias for action in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment.
  • Ability to drive the design review cycle and close on design requirements independently.
  • Fluency in best design practices across mobile, web platforms, and voice-first devices, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques.

The base pay range for this position is $117,800 – $160,000 per year. Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on payment and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Applicants should apply via Amazon’s internal or external careers site.
