Director of Pharmacy

DIRECTOR OF PHARMACY

The Pharmacy Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Pharmacy including but not limited to supervision of the whole operations of the department, ensuring that the staff members are properly trained in accordance with regulations and supervision of assigned staff, establishing policies and procedures for the smooth operation of the department, ensuring compliance with different accrediting bodies and regulations, overseeing the inventory of drugs, medical supplies, and other items in the pharmacy, ensuring that medications are stored properly and developing and maintaining relationships with physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and other health care professionals.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes and maintains effective systems of drug-use control for patients and staff of the hospital, in compliance with relevant laws, rules, regulations, and pharmaceutical care standards of governing bodies.
  • Develops and performs quality management studies based on professionally acceptable criteria. Responsible for all JCIA Standards implementation of Pharmacy.
  • Provides staff resources as necessary for the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee for the Medical Staff.
  • Develops and implements plans for the achievement of short-term and long-term goals and objectives in conjunction with departmental, administrative, and other staff members.
  • Supervises scheduling of departmental personnel to ensure adequate staffing levels and equitable distribution of routine assignments based on institutional needs.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for various aspects of departmental operations, in concert with other staff members; performs annual reviews of policies and procedures making revisions as needed.
  • Prepares, submits, and monitors performances of departmental budget for equipment, supplies, pharmaceuticals, and personnel.
  • Assists medical staff in the development of drug-use criteria and the performance of drug-use evaluations based on those criteria.
  • Establishes standards for the purchase of pharmaceutical products. Cooperates and participates actively with Unimed in the processing of all pharmacy drugs and supplies.
  • Maintains effective and timely communication with departmental and other hospital staff. Works closely with and supports Nursing staff Pharmacy needs.
  • Actively participates on assigned inter-departmental committees of the hospital.
  • Participates in the recruitment process of departmental staff to ensure qualified and competent staff.
  • Analyzes job functions and prepares job descriptions; performs annual reviews of job descriptions and prepares revisions where needed.
  • Performs review of Pharmacy space and resource requirements to assure patient care needs are met.
  • Prepares and submits reports in accordance with routine schedules and as needed.
  • Maintains appropriate records and documentation of activities.
  • Performs all duties in a professional, effective, and confidential manner.
  • Participates in department CQI activities
  • Complies with Hospital Policy and Procedure regarding safety, infection control and security.
  • Responsible for ensuring all Team Members attend the quality improvement program

REQUIREMENTS :

  • BSc in Pharmacy.
  • Current/Valid DHA License or Eligibility Letter.
  • Minimum of seven(7) years experience in a similar position.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Accreditation Practices (e.g., , JCIA)
