Our art program promotes children’s innate curiosity for learning through exploration and imagination. The program aims to develop an appreciation of art and provide opportunities for children’s creative expression. MCS is seeking a collaborative and skilled art teacher who is an advocate for the role of the arts in fostering the development of children’s sense of joy in expressing themselves.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 4-5s (Pre-K) through 8th grade art, Monday through Friday
  • Develop and implement an art curriculum that reflects child-centered education, diversity, and social justice
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers using an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning
  • Organize and maintain the art studio and children’s artwork
  • Ensure the art program is visible within the school and in our digital materials
  • Communicate with families when needed, including Curriculum Night
  • Write narrative reports about children and conduct family-teacher conferences
  • Attend regular staff and art department meetings
  • Maintain classroom inventory within a given budget
  • Fulfill school-wide weekly duties as indicated by the supervisor, such as covering lunch, snack, arrival or dismissal
  • Bachelor in Fine Arts
  • Art teaching experience with elementary-age children
  • Pedagogy and teaching experience that reflect an emphasis on differentiated instruction of an inquiry-based, experiential approach to learning
  • Facility with both two- and three-dimensional art materials
  • Knowledge of child development and curriculum in the visual arts
  • Interest in professional growth
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and supportive of the School’s philosophy
  • Flexible, creative, and has a sense of humor

Preferred

  • Master of Arts in Teaching
  • At least three years of teaching visual arts
  • Commitment to progressive teaching in a diverse community Salary range: $55,226-$89,117
