We are looking for an enthusiastic lawyer with strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills to help deliver practical, business-focused corporate and commercial legal services to a range of internal client groups.
Legal Counsel, Information Technology provides strategic direction and ensures the provision of legal services in a cost-effective and timely manner considering the risks for Canada Post and its subsidiaries.
Job Responsibilities
Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Legal Counsel, Information Technology.
- Review, draft and negotiate various agreements, including information technology-related agreements.
- Prepare legal opinions on a variety of corporate, regulatory, and information-technology-related issues.
- Provide practical, strategic, business-focused legal advice in a variety of related areas, including:
o Procurement (Sourcing Management)
o Corporate Governance
o Privacy
o Data and Corporate Security
Qualifications
Education
- Law degree from a recognized institution and membership in good standing with a provincial bar.
Experience
- Minimum 2-5 years of post-call experience in corporate/commercial law.
- Experience in corporate/commercial law, including researching and drafting legal opinions, and negotiating and drafting various types of agreements.
- The preferred candidate will have strong experience in negotiating SaaS/IaaS/PaaS, software, data processing, service level, support, system integrator, development, managed services agreements.
- Work with cross-functional teams, including technology, security and privacy teams, and build strong subject matter expert relationships.
- Strong communication skills, proven leadership capabilities and the ability to work independently.
- Motivation, collegiality, and the ability to “hit the ground running”.

Location
This position is currently based in Ottawa however, we will consider candidates located elsewhere in Ontario.
