Job Description
Telecon is looking for an experienced Senior Operations Manager to join our growing team in Western Canada. This is a full-time position that includes a comprehensive Health Benefits plan, a company match RRRSP as well as a terrific work environment.
The Senior Manager of Operations will be responsible for overseeing all construction activities located in Western Canada (BC, AB, and SK). This person will work closely with our clients, customers, and internal team to ensure deliverables are met on time and to standard, by providing supervision and direction to Telecon employees, contractors, and external vendors. The Senior Manager of Operations will be tasked with utilizing their project management skills and business acumen to plan, track and report on matters pertaining to the projects’ development while ensuring cost-effective practices are enforced.
Responsibilities:
- Continually understands market conditions and identifies opportunities for the division to take advantage of in order to deliver efficient and profitable results;
- Participates in the call for the tender process by ensuring the optimization of margins;
- Reviews, updates, and leads negotiations with subcontractor vendors;
- Review of negotiations and contract extensions;
- Provide high-level support and overall guidance to project teams, and act as a single point of contact for subcontractor and client contacts on program status, escalations & contract management issues;
- Meet with key clients and visit onsite projects as required;
- Ensure client satisfaction;
- Pragmatic about what to do to achieve your goals. Has the courage to recommend calculated risks and stand up for what they believe is the right thing to do;
- Responsible for the P&L of projects by reviewing Prices, Rates, and Labour costs;
- Providing leadership and vision to the teams;
- Participate and support the day-to-day leadership of the division, including customer relations, health and safety, financial reporting, operations, and project management;
- Optimize resources, materials, and equipment to improve the financial performance of the organization through identifying resource capacities and matching to customer opportunities
- Monitors and reviews performance and regularly reports on business unit performance;
- Establish and communicate divisional targets aligned to and in support of program targets while ensuring targets support divisional melt, roadblocks, client delays, etc;
- Plans operations of the division to achieve profitability objectives and general corporate objectives while working closely with Directors and Stream Program Managers and leadership;
- Support Project Teams by reviewing detailed resource implementation plans tailored to the projects being implemented at the site. Work with project managers to ensure plans meet the client’s requirements and are consistent across the region;
- Work with senior managers and the Talent & Culture Team to ensure the proper resources are in place to fulfill Telecon obligations;
- Develop, coach, and mobilize the employees of the business unit, identify and ensure the continuous development of key talents and successors required for key positions;
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience with a particular focus on contract management and negotiation;
- Experience leading or representing an organization;
- Minimum of 15 years of work experience in civil construction and/or telecommunications or within a similar industry, field, or program/technical support function;
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a leadership role;
- Self-starter – able to work independently with limited supervision;
- Previous supervisory experience managing large projects;
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, in particular with subcontracted resources;
- Experience in dealing with customer stakeholder representatives and developing successful solutions to meet the needs of large demanding organizations;
- Specific experience developing and leading an integration project management framework;
- Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives and improving productivity through process improvement;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, management, vendors, outside agencies, and community groups;
- Strong financial and business acumen;
- Highly organized and detail-oriented;
- Ability to think creatively and work well under pressure;
- Strong customer interface skills;
- PMP Certification is an asset;
- Knowledge and use of project management systems/tools;
- Strong presentation skills, and excellent written, and verbal communications skills;
