Summer Student General
Full Job Description
The summer student will focus primarily on parts inventory management, chemical inventory reporting and labelling, and supporting Biomedical Technologists. They will be responsible for accurate data entry of inventory detail including vendor/supplier, part numbers, descriptions, purchase costs and inventory count.
The student will gain industry experience related to the suppliers and parts used in a typical Clinical Engineering department as well as becoming familiar with the operations of the department. The student will be introduced to the various medical technologies used within three Covenant Health Facilities and the departments and staff that depend on this equipment. Reports to the Clinical Engineering Manager.
Support the Clinical Engineering team through the application of technical expertise in assisting front line technologists and management. Under the guidance of senior staff, this could involve basic repairs, data entry, record keeping, organizing, parts management, chemical compound inventory recording or other technical duties as required.
Participate in job shadowing, local staff meetings, or working groups as directed within the department. Contribute to the overall function of Clinical Engineering by assisting in the support of medical devices and systems which directly impact our customers – clinicians and patients. The student must be willing to travel and work at other Covenant Health hospital sites as needed.

Required Qualifications:To be considered for employment all candidates must be: Registered as a full-time post-secondary student in an accredited institution. Registered in a Biomedical Technology program. Returning for courses in the next academic term. Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Additional Required Qualifications:1st year undergraduate specializing in Biomedical Technology. Demonstrated understanding of medical devices including concepts such as safety aspects, design principles, and general maintenance requirements. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with analytical and problem-solving abilities is a requirement.
General understanding of Microsoft Windows computer applications including MSOffice suite is a requirement. Strong verbal and written communication skills – including experience working in a team environment. Interest in patient safety and having a customer support focus. Successful candidates will be required to provide a criminal record check that is satisfactory to AHS in compliance with the AHS Security Screening Directive.
