General Operative
Job Overview
This is a plowing role for all Work Areas of the contract, additional minor new works, project enabling works and working with sub-contractors.
The successful candidate will be employed across all areas of the contract as the need arises.
Hand Duties
- Pest control – spraying building perimeters and outer chambers for cockroaches. Baiting traps for rodents. Removing dead rodents and rabbits.
- Grounds maintenance works – spraying, controlling weeds, raking up leaves, pruning trees, hedges, bushes, watering shrubs and garden at No 9 Gt, sweeping footpaths and roads. Filling garden water tanks at married quarters.
- Refuse collection – collecting waste from Travelers Hill yard, Combined Mess, ration store, and accommodation; Airhead buildings and married quarters in Two Boats and Georgetown.
- Cleaning – deep cleaning of combined mess kitchen, inflight catering, Mountain View club and medical center every 3 months. Cleaning at Travelers Hill Yard.
- Plant and transport operations – assist with unloading of resupply ship. Transport cargo and goods to and from pier or other places of work, off load at designated locations.
- Unpack containers at ration store. Pack containers with waste products for return to UK (fridges, freezers, washing machines, paint tins etc).
- Develop plant operator driving skills.
- Assist skilled trades persons, concreting, trenching etc.
- Work with other laborers and trades.
- Work with other teams delivering minor new works, project enabling works and support sub-contractors.
- Complete work dockets and weekly timesheets.
- Carry out other work of which you are capable and for which you have trained or will receive training from the Company.
- Promote Mitie’s professional image in all liaisons with the customer and outside agencies.
What we are looking for
- The successful candidate will have previous experience of ploughing.
- Experience of working within a customer focused environment.
- Good standard of education.
- Has a ‘can do’ mature attitude. Is flexible, reliable and self-motivated; will have an open approach, pass on knowledge, share experience and show willingness to assist others.
- Will develop positive, supportive working relationships with team and colleagues.
- Will be well-organized, a motivated team player who is keen to learn.
- Has ability to work on own with minimal supervision and will take responsibility for own actions.
- Will prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
- Health and Safety Knowledge (that includes COSHH and manual handling).
- Driving License.
- Capable of recording work accurately on work sheets.
- Regards personal and plant safety as priority.
- Willingness to undertake further training.
- Keenness to pro-actively improve house keeping
- Desirable: To have attained, or be working towards an NVQ level 1 in a relative field.
- Desirable: Experienced in working in a military environment.
