Engineering Work Experience Student (Edmonton Transit Service)

Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) plays a critical role in connecting people, businesses and citizens within the City of Edmonton and the Capital Region. This group manages all of the ITS technology installed on the Bus fleet. The systems include Bus Camera, Automatic Passenger Counter, Radio, Smart Fare, and Smartbus automatic vehicle location (AVL) and computer-aided dispatch (CAD). All of these systems are utilized by different areas of the organization and allow Edmonton Transit to provide better information for the customers, enable better management of on-road service, and collect data that assists planners. As a part of the team, you will be supporting various renewal and upgrade projects as the on-site ETS representative, working to ensure the project is completed to ETS standards and requirements.

Duties include:

  • Coordinate project work with ETS facility staff and contractors
  • Assist in preparing and updating the relevant project documentation, spreadsheets and databases
  • Travel to various ETS facilities across the City, performing pre- and post-installation quality control
  • Monitor and control project progress, managing changes, and developing project schedules
  • Ensure contractor work performed during the project are compliant with City of Edmonton specifications
  • Assist with troubleshooting, configuration and maintenance of ‘Smart’ Equipment on ETS buses
  • Prepare and update internal diagrams and drawings
  • Optimize existing processes and configurations for hardware and software maintenance
  • Support ETS Bus Technology team with various operational projects and reports

Note: This position may require you to work remotely from home, in addition to on-site work conditions.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an electrical, computer, or mechanical or civil engineering co-op or equivalent post-secondary work experience degree program
  • Demonstrated ability using Google Workspace applications
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in the absence of a supervisor
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to maintain strong working relationships
  • Ability to take direction from and provide technical support to team members
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday – Friday

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary: $27.857 – $32.499 (Hourly)
