Grain Farm equipment operator


Balderston Farms is a family-owned larger crop operation located near Sexsmith, Alberta. Our goal is to improve the land we farm, both in productivity and quality. We focus on high productivity and good land stewardship through the use of modern farming practices. We grow mainly canola and barley with a mix of wheat and hay depending on the year. We have a highly driven team who share a passion for farming and enjoy our time at work even during the long hours of the busy season.

We’re hiring for a full-time Farm Worker in Sexsmith (15 minutes north of Grande Prairie) to ideally grow in into a Farm Manager role. You would be performing a variety of tasks including operating equipment, performing maintenance on equipment, leading the activities in the shop, hauling grain and assisting at our storage facilities. You would be joining a highly motivates team where it’s an all hands-on deck mentality. We are all willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.

  • Strong mechanical ability to work on farm equipment and ability to lead the projects in the shop from ordering parts to prioritizing projects
  • Passion for agriculture and experience in farming with the inherent traits to grow to be a leader on the farm
  • Ability to work with ag technology.

  • Pride and focus on paying attention to the details
  • Highly driven with the ability to work long hours.

What you would be doing

  • Working in the shop including prioritizing projects, scheduling repairs, price checking and ordering parts, greasing and fueling equipment.
  • Operate farm equipment and haul grain.
  • Ensure accurate use of ag technology equipment.
  • Work closely with our farm owner on their recommendations for seed, fertilizer and crop protection
  • Assist with drying, storage and movement of grain.
  • Work closely with the ownership on developing and implementing ideas for improvement on the farm
  • Support strong land stewardship and conservation practices of waterways, buffer strips and weed control
  • Maintain an organized and clean appearance of the farm operation, equipment and grounds
  • Assist with ground maintenance and other general farm duties

Qualifications

  • Farm work experience – PLEASE LIST ALL EQUIPMENT THAT YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH
  • Willingness to obtain Chemical Applicator license
  • Willingness to learn GPS
  • Basic knowledge of agronomy, grain drying and storage and crop farming practices

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $25.00-$35.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift
  • 12 hour shift

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Grande Prairie, AB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
