Junior Farm Manager

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

The ideal candidate should possess a tertiary qualification, such as a BSc in Agriculture or a related field. Previous work experience of 1-2 years will be advantageous.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Planning:

  • Develop crop production plans for maize, soybeans, sunflower, wheat, and cotton for designated farming units in collaboration with the Operations Manager and contractors.
  • Make chemical and fertilizer recommendations in consultation with chemical representatives and agronomists.
  • Establish a budget for each unit, considering various scenarios and cost ranges.

Execution:

  • Implement production plans within the allocated budget, working closely with the Operations Manager and contractors.
  • Ensure timely and accurate land preparations, planting, and application of inputs as per the production plan.
  • Facilitate the delivery of inputs and contracting services.
  • Coordinate the delivery of harvested crops to silos or other destinations.

Management:

  • Assist farming contractors with day-to-day crop production activities and decision-making.
  • Conduct regular visits to farming units, addressing challenges, and monitoring progress.
  • Manage on-farm stock storage and implement proper stock management procedures.

Reporting:

  • Provide frequent updates on crop progress and production outcomes for designated farming units.
  • Report on factors influencing crops, potential damage, and recommended solutions.
  • Monitor the budget and report any factors impacting spending for each farming unit.
  • Maintain records of on-farm and storage facility stock quantities.
  • Report daily rainfall from farms.
  • Complete crop estimates pre-harvest and reconciles deliveries with reports from the Stellenbosch Head Office.

  • Reports to: Senior Farming Field Manager
  • Remuneration: Market-related basic salary with Travel and Car Allowance, Provident Fund, and Medical Aid benefits.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle, preferably a utility vehicle (4×4/bakkie)
