Join our award-winning Summer Internship program and get to be placed within one of our fourteen government agencies offering placements.  See first-hand what it is like to work in health, safety, and wellbeing team in the public sector. Our program offers students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and exposure to the exciting field of health, safety, and wellbeing during their placement.


About the program

If successful you will be placed in a health, safety, and wellbeing team where you will gain valuable business experience and be responsible for delivering your own project work and contribute to the team’s overall work program.

  • We have 14 agency placements on offer; eleven based in central Wellington and three based in Auckland (See our program guide for more information)
  • Employed on a fixed term contract by one of our agencies
  • Working full time (40 hours a week Monday to Friday), for up to 14 weeks.

Who are we looking for? – Ko te tangata mo tēnei tūranga?

We don’t expect our interns to have any prior health and safety knowledge or experience but relevant study and an interest in this field is a plus. Interns must be:

  • Genuinely interested in starting a career in Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Profession.
  • Having a great work ethic and communication skills.
  • Studying in New Zealand for a diploma or undergraduate degree in health science, health and safety, global health, psychology, or human resources.
  • Moving into your fourth year or finishing your final of undergraduate study.  We want to have students who have studied or completed one more paper in health, health science, occupational health and safety, human resources, psychology, or a related area of study.
  • Available to work full time for the duration of your placement from 21 November to 17 February (excluding the Christmas/new year holidays)
  • Eligible to live, study and work in New Zealand

Our selection process has been designed to help identify the key attributes and skills, agencies are looking to be successful health, safety, and wellbeing intern for this program and be a part of their team.  To apply for our intern program, we ask all our intern candidates to:

  • Complete a self-taped video interview and attend an assessment center to interview with our agencies
  • Complete pre-employment checks such as references and vetting checks (if required by your agency)
