Job Description
Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities, and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
The Intern, Supply chain, has broad exposure to various tasks and supports on the development and implementation of policies and processes as well as daily operational functions. A crucial part of this role is the hands-on experience in the respective field of expertise and the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to day-to-day work.
The incumbent will provide day-to-day support while assisting and coordinating specific activities, including:
- Learning company procedures and processes and applying theoretical knowledge to propose possible improvements to increase business efficiency
- Prepares analytics, reports, and various documentation specific
- Reviews available data and manipulates data to reach intended outcomes
- Collects and enters data into various internal systems
- Performs various duties as assigned
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- Enrollment in a university degree program, with a specialization in Finance, Human Resources, Engineering, Supply Chain, or similar.
In addition, you should have:
- Knowledge of methodology and tools relevant to the internship assignment
- Ability to analyze data from various data sources
- Desire to work in a collaborative team environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Power BI)
- Interpersonal skills including problem-solving
- Knowledge of marine operations and shipbuilding is an asset
- Good written and verbal communication skills
