Summary:

Duties
Mumbai processes one of the largest numbers of both immigrant and non-immigrant visas in the world. Mumbai has assumed a focal position in Mission India by becoming the sole post to process immigrant visas in the country, and processes 14% of the world’s temporary work visas. The Fraud Prevention Unit (FPU) Investigations Assistant supports the daily activities of the Fraud Prevention Unit in the Consular section, with the primary responsibility of reviewing and assessing visa and citizenship applications to make sure officers have the best possible information upon which to base a decision.
The incumbent develops expertise in identifying and reporting fraud through knowledge of local customs and U.S. immigration law. They must effectively interview applicants to elicit information that is material to an adjudication decision in any of the categories of benefits for the non-immigrant (NIV), Immigrant (IV), or American Citizen Services (ACS) sections. The incumbent must use technology effectively to keep records of fraud assessments, track trends, and gain information in cases of potential fraud.
The incumbent also provides training to adjudicating officers in the section regarding fraud prevention and detection techniques. The incumbent must exhibit excellent judgment and strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills due to high profile nature of India’s Immigrant visa adjudications and the need to communicate effectively with applicants and officers in the ACS, NIV, IV, FPU, and ARSO-I sections and the Consular Information Unit (CIU). Incumbent is also required to conduct periodic site visits within Mumbai’s consular district.
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: Three years of experience in research or investigation, i.e. legal analysis, management consulting, human resources, police or military investigations or other similar work is required. (Please describe your previous and current job responsibilities in detail.)

- Fluent in English, Hindi and Gujarati (See Language section)

Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Arts (Humanities), Business (Commerce), Science/Technology, Computer Application or Business Administration is required. (Please specify the name of the Certificate/Degree/Diploma course and the major subjects for each qualification you possess.)
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE: Fluency in English and Hindi (speaking, reading, and writing) is required. Fluency in Gujarati (speaking and reading) is required. This may be tested. (Please specify in your application your level of proficiency in each language listed here.)

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
